Safety Integrity Level: a measure used in functional safety to express the required risk reduction and reliability of a safety function.

Higher SIL levels demand progressively stronger control of dangerous failure probability.
In normal English
SIL applies to safety functions and systems, not as a general quality score for an individual product in isolation.

Use it when designing or verifying safety instrumented functions under standards such as IEC 61508/61511.
