An electrically operated switch.

A small control signal changes one or more isolated electrical contacts.

Relays let low-power electronics switch different voltages or larger loads, provide isolation and create NO/NC contacts. Mechanical relays have finite switching life.
Why would I use it?
Use it for electrical isolation, interface switching and modest loads within the relay rating.
