Pulse output
Information sent as a series of electrical pulses.

Each pulse represents an event or a fixed amount, such as one litre of flow.
In normal English
A controller counts pulses over time or totals them. Frequency can indicate speed or flow rate, while total pulse count can represent accumulated quantity.
Why would I use it?
Use it with flowmeters, encoders, counters and speed sensing.
