A CAN-based communication standard widely used in heavy vehicles and mobile machinery.

It standardises messages for engines, transmissions and many vehicle subsystems.
In normal English
J1939 uses CAN underneath but defines parameters, message identifiers and network behaviour suited to commercial vehicles and off-highway equipment.
