IP rating
A code describing an enclosure's tested protection against solids and water.
IN ONE SENTENCE
The first digit relates to solid ingress and the second to water ingress.
In normal English
IP67 and IP68 do not simply mean 'waterproof forever'; the exact test conditions and manufacturer specifications still matter.
Why would I use it?
Use it to judge whether an enclosure is suitable for dust, washdown, immersion or outdoor exposure.
THINK OF IT LIKE…
A standardised score for how well the enclosure keeps unwanted stuff out.
