Hysteresis
The difference between the point where a device switches one way and the point where it switches back.
IN ONE SENTENCE
It prevents a switch or controller chattering around one exact threshold.
In normal English
For example a pressure switch might turn off at 8 bar and not turn back on until 7 bar. The 1 bar gap is the hysteresis or differential.
Why would I use it?
Use it to create stable switching when the measured value naturally fluctuates.

A deliberate gap between 'turn off' and 'turn back on'.
